The curriculum offered at Wanganui City College covers the seven essential learning areas, as required by the National Curriculum.

Year 9 (Form 3)
Our curriculum is planned to ensure that all students study a wide range of subjects. The Year Nine curriculum is intended to provide a base for studies at a higher level and gives many students an opportunity to explore areas of the curriculum that many be new to them.

The following subjects are compulsory at year 9:
English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Music, Physical Education, Technology, Word Processing and Health.

Optional subjects:
Music, Design Technology (Wood & Metal), Graphics, Food Technology, Fabric Design, Computing, Health, Japanese, Art, Maori, Drama.

At City College we believe in a broad-based curriculum in the junior school with specialisation coming later. This is consistent with the latest educational thinking.

Year Ten (Form 4)
The Year Ten curriculum is designed to continue the general approach to education, but some opportunities are given to select special interest subjects.

The following subjects are compulsory:
English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Education, Information Processing and Health.

Optional Subjects:
Music, Design Technology (Wood & Metal), Graphics, Food Technology, Fabric Design, Computing, Health, Craft, French, Japanese, Drama, Economics, Maori, Art.
