Scholarships

YEAR 13 SCHOLARSHIPS

The interviews for these scholarships are held prior to the Senior Prize Giving. Students will be notified of the date the interviews will be held.

Wayne Boyd Scholarship

The Scholarship shall be awarded to recipients who in the committee's opinion would benefit from tertiary education with regard taken to that person's family and financial circumstance, which might otherwise preclude their higher or further education.

Applications must be submitted with a covering letter and your CV. A committee comprising of the Principal, Year 13 Dean and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees (or nominee) selects the recipient(s). The successful recipient will receive a total of $10,500.00 over three years.

To uplift your scholarship at the end of each year you need to provide the following information to the Principal:

A letter confirming your successful years study
Proof of grades/points credits from your tertiary provider
Your bank account details - deposit slip.

Applications are due on Wednesday 8th November 2017 at 3.30pm and the application form is available from the main office or by downloading it here.


Past Students Scholarship

The Scholarship shall be awarded for Higher Education study to recipients who in the committee's opinion would benefit from tertiary education with regard taken to that person's family and financial circumstance, academic achievement at school and chosen study course which might otherwise preclude their higher or further education.

Applications must be submitted with a covering letter and your CV. A committee comprising of the Principal, Year 13 Dean and two members of the Past Students Association selects the recipient.

To uplift your scholarship you must produce receipts showing fees paid, to the Past Students Association. Also required is a written statement of your academic progress for each year of your tertiary education.


George Holgerson & Past Students Scholarship

The Scholarship shall be awarded for Higher Education study to recipients who in the committee's opinion would benefit from tertiary education with regard taken to that person's family and financial circumstance, academic achievement at school and chosen study course which might otherwise preclude their higher or further education.

Applications must be submitted with a covering letter and your CV. A committee comprising of the Principal, Year 13 Dean and two members of the Past Students Association selects the recipient.

YEAR 9 SCHOLARSHIPS

Listed below are the scholarships available to Year 9 Students at Wanganui City College. Application forms are available online and are also included in the Year 9 enrolment packages.

Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Principal.

Entrance Tests (Literacy and Numeracy) are held in the first few weeks of their Year 9 year. These tests provide information to assist the Principal to award scholarships for Academic Excellence. Successful applicants of the Ernie Rountree and Alexander Bequest Scholarships are presented with their scholarships at the Recognitions Assembly in Term 1 of each year. The Wanganui City College Scholarships are presented at the conclusion of the year.


Ernie Rountree Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 1976 through a generous bequest to the school. Mr Rountree had been an accomplished teacher at this college and the foundation Principal of the Wanganui Intermediate School. As he was a high achiever, it is no surprise that his Scholarship is awarded for Academic Excellence.

One Ernie Rountree Scholarship of $1,250.00 is awarded each year and presented annually at $250.00 for five years. The recipient must continue their education at Wanganui City College for the five years.


Alexander Bequest Scholarship

There are five Alexander Bequest Scholarships available to Year 9 students annually.

Each recipient will be presented with their award of $200.00 at the Recognitions Assembly. The Alexander Bequest Scholarships are awarded for Academic Excellence.


City College Scholarships

There are four Scholarships available each year for Sporting Excellence and Cultural Leadership.

Sporting Excellence Scholarships

Students may apply for the Sporting Scholarships by completing the application form in their enrolment package. The Sporting Excellence Scholarships are awarded at the Principal’s discretion.

There are two $250.00 scholarship of one-year tenure available for presentation at the Junior Prize Giving Ceremony at the conclusion of the year.

Cultural Leadership Scholarships

Students of Maori heritage showing leadership potential may apply for the scholarship of $200.00. The award of this Scholarship is decided by the Principal and presented to the recipient at the Junior Prize Giving Ceremony at the conclusion of the year.

Students of Pacific Island heritage showing leadership potential may apply for the Scholarship of $200.00. The award of this Scholarship is decided by the Principal and presented to the recipient at the Junior Prize Giving at the conclusion of the year.
