WCC went behind almost immediately following the kick off. A defensive error in the box gifted the goal to the opposition. St Pats (Kilbernie) continued to attack and went close on a number of occasions, Richard Smith making some high quality saves.
WCC were into the wind for the second half and played more constructive football. St Pats made it difficult closing down the City players quickly and not giving players much freedom. The City keeper was not troubled so much this half with the defense playing solidly. Somehow the classy St Pats striker managed to squeeze a right sided shot in through an almost impossible angle and the match was effectively over. WCC continued to push forward for a goal. Jeremy Kirkwood’s chipped finish completed a great series of passes but the linesman harshly ruled offside.
WCC play Aotea College tomorrow at 1:00pm – playing off for 5th -8th position.
