WCC lose their match 3-1 after leading at the Jim Wishart Cup in Palmerston North. Following yesterdays loss., WCC went into todays game looking for a positive result. Their efforts were rewarded in the first half by a well constructed goal to Dennis Black. Matthew Rogers instrumental in its build up. City continued to push for more goals but failed to finish chances.
In the second half Aotea came out firing looking for an equalizer. A failed WCC clearance fell to an Aotea attacker and the shot was well finished to draw the game. Aotea increased their influence in the game but City looked strong defensively. Aotea scored a second goal, with a long range effort deflecting of an offside player. Without linesman for the game, the referee failed to pick this up and incorrectly awarded the goal. The referee further finished the game off by awarding a penalty to Aotea. The final score was 3-1 and WCC are playing a strong Wairarapa side tomorrow in the play off for 7th/8th.
