The following information is a record of students who have represented the school at local, regional and national and international level for different sporting codes.
Also included are teams that have achieved national rankings at secondary school level. Records first began in 1918, but representative teams were only established from the 1930’s onwards.

The school karate team won gold in the colour belt team Kata at the national champs
2007
Mr G Davies (staff) selected to represent NZ at Judo.
North Island judo titles won in the U73kg div and NSS boys U45kg div.
At the national Karate Champs Miss McKee (staff) gained first place in the Snr Team Kata.
School soccer teams finished 1st in both youth division 1 and 2 in the Wanganui League. 3 players selected for Wanganui 15th Grade rep team and 5 players for the U19 team.

Chris Masoe was selected for the junior all blacks.

Trassina Noble won 3 gold medals at the NZ division 2 swim champs.
The senior boys basketball team finished 7th at the NSS tournament.

The senior boys touch rugby team gained 2nd place at the NZSS nationals.
S Koro and P Huywler were selected for the NZSS touch team.
Mellissa Crothers and Kristen Ashworth gained a 3rd place at the NSS rowing champs in the U19 girls doubles.
Sam Weller was selected in the central region squad for badminton
Mellissa Crothers and Aroha Henry were selected for the Wanganui womens U19 netball team and Melissa Henare for the U15 team.
2002
Steelie Koro was selected for the NZSS sevens and touch rugby teams and NZ U21 touch team. Was awarded the WSS senior sportsperson award and the Wanganui Junior sportsperson of the year.
Pehira Huwyler made the WSS rugby team, Hurricanes schools squad, Wanganui U21 touch rugby and the Wanganui senior NPC 7’s squad.
James Paringatai made the Wanganui, Central North Island and NZ U18 basketball teams. Also played for the Wanganui senior mens team.
Qio Vucago made the NZ U19 rugby training squad
Same Weller was selected for the NZ U16 badminton team
Wang Zi gained a number 2 ranking in NZ for both singles and doubles tennis.
2001
Nick Smith and Shane Clark were runners up in the inter-schools competition A grade badminton.
Nathan Purvis won the mens white and yellow belt kata and kumite at the national Karate Champs help in Taupo.
The softball team won the Wanganui SS competition.
The sailing team won the Western districts Sailing regatta at Foxton
Dale Stringer was selected in the NZ U16 boys soccer team.
The senior netball team won the 2nd div of the local club competition. Mellissa Crothers made the Wanganui representative U17 girls netball team and Melissa Hapi the U19 girls team.
2000
In 2000, Glen Haddon was selected for the NZ mountain biking team after wining the North Island and NZSS Under 19 downhill titles. He achieved a 4th place at the Australian U19 nationals as part of the NZ team.
Jason Cressingham achieved a 12th in the senior boys 1500m and 7th in 3000m at the NSS athletics.
Senior girls had an unbeaten season in the local basketball grade.
The senior boys cross country team took out the regional champs with Jason Cressingham 1st, Damion Howe 2nd and Joshua Hall 4th. They achieved 9th place at the NSS champs. Best placing going to Jason with 7th. The interschool road relays were held in Wellington with senior boys coming 4th
Melissa Hapi and Leanne Te Waaka made the girls U19 Wanganui Rep netball team. The A2 team won the netball 3rd division title.
At the NSS rowing regatta (Maadi Cup) Nathan Jones gained 1st place in the U17 singles. Roy Pullins and Hamish Miller gained 2nd place U16 double.
Joshua Hall, Amby Perez and Shaun Thompson gained representative status in rugby at local level.
Joshua Hall was selected in the NZ U19 touch rugby team to compete at the world champs.
Boys Hockey team gained 1st place in the local secondary competition.
Jason Cressingham placed 4th in senior boys 3000m and 10th 1500m at North Island secondary athletics champs. Mark Cressingham placed 5th 3000m and 6th 1500m junior boys.
James Patea wins 1st place at regional secondary golf champs.
Senior boys cross country team gained 3rd place at NSS champs. Jason Cressingham named in boys NSS team and gained 4th place overall at Nationals.
Jonathan Hamlin won 6 titles at the NZ track cycling champs and made NZ squad to race at Oceania games. Represented West Coast NI at NZ road champs. Won the novice tour in Manawatu.

Boys U16 rowing quad gained 5th place at NSS rowing champs and 4th place in the U16 doubles.

Renata Hall won 100m junior boys at NISS athletics champs. Daniel Paranihi 3rd in 800m and 1500m. Jason Cressingham 3rd intermediate 3000m and Wayne Graham 4th Snr 3000m. Jason Rattray 4th Snr boys 100m and 300m hurdles.
Wayne Graham placed 7th NZSS cross country champs and selected for NZSS team
Mathew Anderson wins 2 gold and bronze at NZ track cycling champs. Gained 5th place at junior world track cycling champs in kilo time trial. Brendon Sharrott selected in NZ junior development road cycling team and finished 13th at the Australian Jnr road cycling champs and 1st NZ’r.
The time trial team gained 4th place at the NZSS cycling event.
Jono Hamlin won gold in the U15 points race at track cycling nationals. Brendan Sharratt got silver in the U19 points race.
Netball representatives included Leanne TE Waaka, Sarah Tauroa, Renee Chadwick, Rebecca Collins, Abby Hawkes.
Rugby reps included Daniel Ruapita (Wanganui U16), Chris Tuapola (Wanganui U16), Daniel Hauraki (Wanganui U16), Joshua Hall (Wanganui U16), Shaun McLean (Wanganui SS team), Mitchell Bishop (Wanganui SS team), Chris Masoe and Shaun Mariner (Wanganui SS, Central regions teams, Wanganui U19, Wanganui Dev squad), Jamie Barry (Wanganui U16), Nathan Easton (Wanganui SS)
Ari Bullock represented the school in the Wanganui senior mens soccer team.
Boys touch team gained 6th at national SS event. Robbie Potaka-Osbourne made the tournament team.
Michelle Warner, Chris Patea, Daniel Raupita, Shaun McLean made the NZ youth touch teams to play Australia.
1997
Jarrod Bartlett played in the Wanganui Snr mens cricket team.
Jason Cressingham placed 10th at the NSS cross country champs.
Matthew Anderson gets gold medal at the national junior track cycling in the mens sprint and to represent NZ at the Oceania Games. Brendon Sharratt gets silver in novice boys 500m and bronze in novice boys sprint. He gained selection to the U17 training camp in Adelaide.
The school boys golf team gained 8th place at the NSS golf champs. Ben Cribb won the individual title.
Netball representatives included Sarah Tauroa, Daneka Patea, Leanne Te Waaka, Narelle Gray and Melissa Hapi.
The U17 boys quad won gold, silver in the U17 double and bronze in the U17 single at NSS rowing champs. The girls won gold in the U19 quad.
Daniel Raupita, Carl Tui and Jamie Berry made the U16 Wanganui rep rugby team.
Touch rugby winners at nationals were youth girls and and youth boys (B Section) Michelle Warner was named in the NZ Youth girls team.
1996
Janet Hiri and Kelly McLeod were part of the Wanganui U16 basketball team that took out the national title.
Sophie Chiet made the U15 wanganui rep netball team. Marinia Taumaunu made the Wanganui U17 rep team.
Boys U16 quad placed 2nd and U16 double 2nd at the NZSS rowing champs
Don McLachlan (staff) represented NZ at the Lucerne world cup regatta in the mens lightweight pair finishing 9th in the finals.
Tim Wrightson played in the Wanganui SS rugby team. Brett Harrison, Carl Tui, Ryan Hill and Robert Evans made the Wanganui U16 rugby team.
Daneka Patea, Terina Rukuwai, Amy Cranston, Chandra Osborne played for the Wanganui SS girls rep rugby team.
Stuart Cawood represented NZ in the junior smallbore rifle team.
Sheralee Spencer and Kylee Randall played for Wanganui U19 soccer team. Sheralee also selected for the NZ girls squad.
The table tennis team won the Commercial Union trophy for the top SS table tennis team at the Nationals. Team was Greg Smith, Mike Purvis and James Chapman.
Touch rugby team placed 2nd at the NZSS touch tournament.
1995
Cycling team of Daniel Hill, Dale Cheatly Adam Gosney Craig Sharratt and Mathew Anderson placed 2nd at the Annual Sir Bernard Fergusson trophy race. Dayle Cheatly won the intermediate boys title and Daniel Hill the snr boys event.
Alex Chiet made the NZ U18 soccer squad and the Jnr all whites
Table tennis team of Greg Smith, Ben Chapman and James Chapman won the NZSS title.
Dayle Cheatly won 3 golds at the national track champs
John Lockwood and Michael Price made the NZ junior roller hockey team to Australia

Duncan Ross won the NZSS cross country running title (U20), 4th Australian U20 champs, 2nd NI U20 champs, 2nd NISS 3000m, 1st steeple chase 2000m, 1st Australian schools U18 3000m, 1st steeple chase 2000m. Named Wanganui junior sportsman of the year.

Boys U15 four placed 2nd at north island SS rowing champs.
Bevan Cheatly made the NZ junior road cycling team.
Duncan Ross placed 2nd at NZSS cross country and named in NZ team.
1991
Bevan James made the Wanganui U18 soccer team, U19 central region team, and the NZ U19 development team.
Duncan Ross won the NZSS junior 3000m, Wanganui SS open 3000m and North Island schools intermediate 3000m.
Regan Sue made the Wanganui and NZSS rugby team to play Australia. Also played in the Wanganui SS touch rugby team, and Wanganui Senior Touch rugby team.
Warren Brown played in the Wanganui U20 basketball team.

1990
Regan Sue and Amon Nepe made the Wanganui senior mens touch rugby team with Sue named snr player of the year. Mathew Haapu made the mixed rep team. Sue, Nepe, Haapu and Andre Thompson made the Wanganui SS team.
Steven ray, Lee Haris, Aaron Phillips, Daniel Wallace, and Damian Brandon made the Wanganui U18 basketball team.
Dennis Winterburn made the Wanganui U16A basketball team.
Gary Wake place 3rd at the NZSS indoor shooting champs
Riki Broughton, Bevan James and Darren Kenny played in the Wanganui soccer team that toured Japan.
David Gillum made the central region U17 soccer team.
Hockey team placed 3rd at NSS hockey tournament. Selected for national teams were Adrian Docherty, Karl Wilson, Stephen Benson (jnrs) and Clinton Parkes, Richard Wills, Daren Mallinder and Andrew Hacket (snrs)
Paul Hart placed 11th at the NSS cycling champs, and 2nd in the Mansfield race for snrs. Bevan Cheatly represented West Coast NI in the novice grade.
Duncan Ross placed 3rd at the NSS athletics champs in the jnr 3000m and 3rd at the nationals. Gained 2nd place at the NZSS cross country champs for Juniors.

Car McGowwan, Mark Jackson and Lance Chalk made the Wanganui SS rep badminton team.
Boys U16 4 finished 4th at NZSS rowing champs. U17 double finished 3rd, U16 8 finished 4th.
David Lamason made the Wanganui U18, emerging players, NZ development squad cricket teams. Ricky McIntyre made the Western Districts, Wanganui U18 and emerging players cricket teams. Other Wanganui U18 reps included Shorty Allum, Nick Olney, Nick Maslin, Richard Stewart, Jeremy Smith and Craig Little.
1987
Senior boys basketball team placed 2nd at the NZSS basketball tournament. Ross Anderson made the NZSS tournament team and the MVP award. Mr B Ashworth named coach of the year.
Leon Atkinson and Craig Adams made the NZSS hockey tournament team. Atkinson made the Wanganui colts, Clinton Parkes, Adams, and Darryn Wilkins the Wanganui U15 team. The Ist 11 finished 3rd equal at the NZSS tournament.
David Lamason made the Wanganui Snr rep cricket team, U16 team and U18 team.
Wanganui U18 reps were Simon Hancock, Dean James, Ricky McIntyre, Gareth Allum, Richard Stewart. Nick Maslin U16 rep.

Jason Laing won the Jnr slalomn and jump at national water ski champs and represented NZ against Australia.
Shane Judson made the NZ youth weight lifting team to Australia.

Derek Lockwood achieved 1st place at the NZ BMX champs (amateur champion), 4th place South Pacific Oceanic titles, Member of NZ team. Placed 8th at world championships 16-17 years.
Darrryl Follows made the NZ U18 and NZSS water polo team.

Graeme Cox finished 6th at the NZSS cycling champs in the time trial.

John Bennett made the National Central region schools rugby team. Wanganui U16 reps were Ian Minnell, George Potaka, Raymond Blake, and Scott Vazey.

Hockey team placed 3rd at the NZSS tournament. Bruce Burroughs selected for the NZSS team as captain
Graeme Parr gained the NZ flyweight boxing title at the nationals.
Snr boys 4 placed 4th in the Sprinbok shield and 4th in the intermediate 4 at the national SS rowing champs

Graeme Tauri placed 5th in both 100m freestyle and 400m freestyle at NISS swim champs

School hockey ream placed 3rd at National tournament.
R Richdale and C Morrison won the 1600m hard track cycling title at the NZSS champs. Richdale won the NZ road title, Morrison 2nd, I Johnson 4th and B Harrison 5th.

Scott Hood placed 3rd at NISS swimming champs for open dive. Graham Tauri placed 6th open 200m medley.
Wanganui U16 rugby reps were John Bennett, Thomas Blake, Bert Bakk, John Corbett and Richard Jones.
Hockey reps were A Lints, N Bleasdale and B Burroughs to the NZSS team. Wanganui colts team were Lints, Burroughs, R Burgess and P Young.

B Blue placed 4th at NISS swim champs in 100m jnr freestyle final.
R Doyle 2nd open 100m butterfly final, 4th 4 x 50 medley. Bruce Walker 2nd 200m freestyle final, 1st 400m freestyle final.

N Hawke made the NZSS cricket team.

Mark Brewer won the NZ open plate singles title for badminton, the Wanganui residential combined and mens doubles champs, King Country mens singles, doubles and combined doubles, Hawkes bay jnr singles and selected for the Wanganui team to play Australia.
John Lawson won the Horowhenua U18 singles title and the Wanganui colts team.
The cycling team placed 3rd at the NSS time trial event and R perry won the reserves race.

The fencing team of S Hope, I Ravenwood, and O Watson was unofficially the top team in NZ. At the NZSS champs, S Hope 1st boys foil, I Ravenwood 3rd boys sabre.

J Huwyler selected for the Wanganui snr rep cricket side and took 5-70 in his first rep game against Wellington.
The hockey team won the snr reserve grade competition. They also won the H C Johnson Memorial Cup for secondary schools at the national tournament.
